AEI Award for Netanyahu Is Meant to Repair the US-Israel Split: Prof. Denis Rancourt

AEI Award for Netanyahu Is Meant to Repair the US-Israel Split: Prof. Denis Rancourt

The conservative Washington D.C.-based think tank American Enterprise Institute has announced that it would grant the Irving Kristol Award 2015 to the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in recognition of his contributions to democratic leadership and the role he played in enhancing the US-Israel relations.

The AEI President Arthur C. Brooks said the Israeli PM has demonstrated the courage to defend his nation’s values and a commitment to free enterprise, democracy and human dignity.

The award is named after Irving Kristol, the late American journalist and columnist who is popularly known as the “godfather of neo-conservatism”, with close ties to the Israeli government and political institutions. Irving Kristol’s son William is also a conservative political analyst and the founder of The Weekly Standard magazine. He died of lung cancer on September 18, 2009.

Benjamin Netanyahu has called Irving Kristol a “stalwart friend of Israel and a great champion of the US-Israel alliance”, voicing his contentment with the decision by the American Enterprise Institute in naming him the recipient of the 2015 award.

In an interview with Truth NGO, the Canadian scholar and former university professor Denis Rancourt said awarding the AEI prize to Benjamin Netanyahu is mostly an effort to mend the muddled relations between the Israeli PM and his close friend, the US President Barack Obama.

US Petition Urges Obama to Return Nobel Peace Prize for ‘Millions Killed’ ….Nobel admits giving Obama the award was a mistake

US Petition Urges Obama to Return Nobel Peace Prize for ‘Millions Killed’ ….Nobel admits giving Obama the award was a mistake

Americans are urging Barack Obama to return the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to the US President in 2009. The petition, published on the White House website on October 8, roundly rebuked Obama for the US’ foreign policy in the years of his presidency, particularly in regard to the Middle East, and calls on the president to change “our failed and murderous policy” in the region.

Former Nobel chief: Obama Peace Prize a failure

Remember that Nobel Peace Prize that President Obama got in 2009? Well, maybe it wasn’t such a good idea after all, a former top Nobel official said.

Hospital bombing by US military another in list of ‘collateral damage’

Hospital bombing by US military another in list of 'collateral damage'

Outrage over the bombing of a Doctors Without Borders hospital in Kunduz, Afghanistan, by an American gunship Saturday focused increasingly rare media scrutiny on a conflict in which U.S. combat officially ended last year -- but where fighting still rages.

The immediate question is who bears responsibility for a strike in which 22 civilians, including doctors and patients, were killed in what the Nobel prize-winning NGO branded a war crime. But the disaster also raises a list of troublesome tactical questions for Washington.

It will renew serious doubts about the limits of cooperation between the U.S. and the Afghan units that apparently called in the strike, as well as the basic quality of that American-trained force. Pentagon strategists are also puzzling over how the resurgent Taliban was able to capture Kunduz in the first place.

Those questions could not come at a worse time for President Barack Obama, who is facing a much wider strategic dilemma over a war that as a candidate he termed "the right battlefield" for America but that has haunted his entire presidency.

Heading into his final year in office, Obama is weighing whether to go ahead with his plan to bring home almost all U.S. troops in Afghanistan next year to honor a political promise to end the wars he inherited. He may instead opt to leave behind a reduced, but still considerable, U.S. force to boost the country's vulnerable military forces amid fears that they could eventually collapse under Taliban pressure.

FBI Director: ISIS Online Influence Growing in US

FBI Director: ISIS Online Influence Growing in US

FBI Director James Comey says Islamic State's influence is on the rise in the United States. His warning follows the dramatic Mohammed cartoon contest attack carried out earlier this week by two gunmen who drove all the way from Phoenix to Texas.

Federal agents estimate those two are among hundreds of ISIS followers in the United States who are now being bombarded on the Internet with calls to take deadly action.

Elton Simpson and Nadir Soofi are the Phoenix roommates behind the Texas terror attack and the newest faces of homegrown terrorism.

Comey says young ISIS recruits like them are being drawn in by the group's slick, online messages of war.

The terrorists are using hip-hop music productions that mimic the popular Grand Theft Auto video game -- images of handsome fighters and promises of homes and security -- to sell a false version of life under ISIS rule.

75% in U.S. See Widespread Government Corruption

75% in U.S. See Widespread Government Corruption

Gallup tells us that “75% in U.S. See Widespread Government Corruption.” Do we think this is a coincidence? Not at all. We’ve devoted videos and a book to it. Those behind Shemitah and what we call Shemitah trends are taking the country apart. They’re taking Europe apart as well. We’ve discovered the key and unlocked the secret code that drives much of this destruction. Shemitah’s trends do not emerge in a random way. When economic and military destruction takes place over and over in seven year cycles that means someone is driving it.

And those who have created and run central banks are doubtless behind the larger Shemitah trends. No other group is powerful enough. And no other group has the motive. The world is being driven in the direction of endlessly increased centralization – and what we’ve seen even in the last month is part of that process.

The idea is to make the world chaotic enough and people miserable enough so that they will accept the very thing that is making their existence nearly intolerable – endless, expansive government authoritarianism. After each economic implosion and phony terrorist activity, we are told over and over that only more government, more “security” and more invasions into our privacy are necessary.

118 Suicides in US Military During Second Quarter of 2015: Pentagon

118 Suicides in US Military During Second Quarter of 2015: Pentagon

The US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) estimates that 22 former soldiers, sailors, airmen or Marines kill themselves every day, but the real figure is believed to be much higher. “In the second quarter of 2015, there were 71 suicides among service members in the active component, 20 suicides among service members in the reserve component and 27 suicides among service members in the National Guard,” the release read.

The Quarterly Suicide Report (QSR) summarizes confirmed suicide counts for all services and components during the months of April through July, and also includes total suicide counts for 2014, 2013 and 2012.

The VA acknowledges that that total number is based on a study of data collected from just 21 US states. Twenty-nine states that are unaccounted for include California and Texas, the two states with the largest veteran populations.

The VA has no accurate suicide figures later than 2010.

US Petition Drive to Arrest Netanyahu

US Petition Drive to Arrest Netanyahu

On Friday, Netanyahu left London and headed home. He met with Prime Minister David Cameron, British MPs and Jewish community leaders. A petition to arrest him got over 110,000 signatures so far. His longstanding record of high crimes demands accountability. Instead he was treated like an honored guest - an appalling display of indifference to Palestinian suffering.

A US petition to arrest him began circulating - ahead of his scheduled UN General Assembly address in New York later this month. It aims for 100,000 signatures or more before his arrival - sending a message saying his genocidal crimes can’t be ignored.

Sign the petition. Take a stand for justice. Let We the People mean something. Demand Obama, Bush, Cheney and other past and current US war criminals be arrested, put in the dock, prosecuted, convicted and imprisoned longterm.

Obama and Netanyahu will address the 70th annual General Assembly meeting later this month. Vladimir Putin is coming for the first time since 2005, China’s Xi Jinping for his first visit along with scores of other world leaders.

On Thursday, General Assembly members overwhelmingly approved displaying the Palestinian flag at its New York headquarter by a vote of 119 to 8 with 45 abstentions.

Anti-war protesters in Germany slam US drone strikes

Anti-war protesters in Germany slam US drone strikes

Hundreds of anti-war protesters have staged a rally against the US military presence in their country, voicing opposition to Washington’s use of killer drones around the world. Carrying signs addressed to the US army, which read “go home” and “stop war,” the demonstrators gathered outside the US Ramstein Air Base in Germany’s southwestern state of Rhineland-Palatinate on Saturday.

Slamming the US drone strikes in certain countries, the protesters called for an end the alleged use of the air base as a satellite relay station in the drone program.

“No to the killer terror drones,” read another sign carried by the protesters.

Earlier this year, German media reported that Ramstein has been serving as the command center of the US drone strikes across Africa and the Middle East and that the German government is aware of the attacks.

Dispatches: US Gives Brushoff to Women and Girls Raped in War

Dispatches: US Gives Brushoff to Women and Girls Raped in War

The United States plays a critical role in protecting the human rights of women and girls affected by war by raising concerns internationally and funding programs that aid sexual violence survivors. But – and it’s a very big but – the 1973 Helms amendment to the US Foreign Assistance Act undermines much of this important work. Yesterday, instead of choosing to reinterpret the amendment in a manner protective of women’s rights, the US government said it will stand by the law, as is.

It’s a reality that some women and girls subjected to rape in conflict become pregnant by their perpetrators. Healthcare providers funded by the US are limited in how they can help these rape survivors because the Helms amendment prohibits the use of US funding for abortion “as a method of family planning.” This has been interpreted to prohibit abortion even in the case of rape.

Concerns about the detrimental impact of the Helms amendment on rape in conflict are regularly raised by humanitarian organizations, including by the service providers who struggle to give rape survivors the care they need.

Governments at the United Nations Human Rights Council recently raised this concern during the review of the US human rights record. The Netherlands, United Kingdom, and Belgium, among others, encouraged the US to clarify that the Helms amendment, in its implementation, should recognize that women and girls raped in conflict are not seeking to use abortions as family planning. This would allow US funding to support a comprehensive package of health care for women and girls in the aftermath of wartime rape, including abortions for those who need or choose this option.
